Memorial Stadium - Owen Field

Memorial Stadium, Norman, Oklahoma

For eighty-three years, Oklahoma Sooners football has been played at the site of Memorial Stadium. The first Sooners football game was played while the stadium plans were being developed, with OU defeating Washington College of Missouri, 62-7. The field which the games are contested upon, Owen Field, is named after the first head coach of the program, Bennie Owen. Originally set with grass turf, the grass was replaced with tartan artificial turf in 1970, and with super turf in 1981. Thankfully, grass was laid again to be play upon in 1991. The official listed capacity for Memorial Stadium is 81,207, with the largest assembled number of fans for a game being 84,027 for the 2003 game against Oklahoma State University.
The program's overall record for games on Owen field is 314-79-14, a winning percentage of .789
