Bob Stoops - Head Coach

Coming to Norman, Oklahoma with a resume as impressive as anyone, coach Bob Stoops has proven the "experts" correct in assessing him as one of the college game's up and coming stars!
He has served in the coaching field, in some capacity, since 1983. Coming off a stint as a four year starting DB for the Iowa Hawkeyes, he came on board of Hayden Fry's staff as a volunteer coach in '83, and he became a graduate assistant in 1984, remaining with the team until 1988. After a brief time of service on the Kent State football staff, Bob came back to the Big Twelve Conference as the defensive coordinator for the Kansas State Wildcats from 1991 to 1995.
He accepted Steve Spurrier's invitation to join the Florida Gators staff as their defensive coordinator, and the timing could not have been better, as the Gators went on to win the 1996 National Championship. As time moved on, word begin to stir of Bob Stoops eventually taking over as the head coach in Gainesville. Thankfully for Sooners fans, such never happened, and Stoops again returned to Big 12 territory to guide the OU program.
The Stoops era has been a highly successful time for Oklahoma. During his tenure, every home game he has coached has been a sellout. Since 1998, the team has produced 16 All American players, and a Heisman Trophy winner. Last season, Bob Stoops was the recepient of five National Collegiate Coach of the Year awards. Leading into the 2004 season, the Sooners are 54 - 11 during the regular season under coach Stoops.
At age 44, Bob Stoops is viewed by college football fans nationwide as a top tier head coach, and it is the goal of OU to see that the Stoops era in Norman is a long one!
